— Manifesto

Six tenets, written quietly.

Vaiyora — a word we coined for the practice of arriving slowly — was founded in 2012 with a single property in the Utah desert. Today it is a collection of twenty-seven sanctuaries on five continents. The rules below have not changed.

  1. I

    Small in scale.

No sanctuary exceeds thirty suites. Most hold fewer than twenty.

  2. II

    Faithful to place.

Architecture is drawn from the local vernacular and built by local hands.

  3. III

    Generous in silence.

Quiet is a service. We design for it as carefully as we design for light.

  4. IV

    Slow by intention.

There is no programme. The unscheduled hour is the most generous gift.

  5. V

    Rooted in ritual.

Wellness, cuisine and ceremony are composed with the elders of each region.

  6. VI

    Quietly enduring.

We build with materials that will outlast us and trades that will continue without us.
